Help promote and share the history of Washington Place

Docent and Volunteer Programs

Docent Program

Inspire, honor, and share the moʻolelo (stories) of Washington Place as a volunteer docent. As a docent, learn Hawaiʻi’s history and present that information at official state functions, on tours and at special events hosted at the home. Completion of the Docent Training Course and certification are required for all docents.


Volunteers are needed in other areas of the home. Here is a complete list.

  • Host/Hostesses: Assists with Events and Special Programs.
  • General Clerical Help: Assists Staff in Office Projects and Duties
  • Collections or Research Help: Assists Curator in collection management, archives, and exhibitions

The Washington Place Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to preserve Washington Place as a place of learning for the people of Hawaiʻi and its visitors. Donations to support ongoing programs and preservation are accepted online.
